On August 1, 2022, the pilot project for the implementation of more equal opportunities and appreciation of diversity started at IMK-TRO, funded by the University of Excellence Project Gender Equity 1. The project is accompanied by the consulting firm EAF Berlin (https://www.eaf-berlin.de/). EAF Berlin has been active since 1996 as an independent non-profit organization at the interface between politics, business and science and combines scientific expertise with many years of practice in consulting and training. In the first phase of the project, a status quo analysis with individual interviews and a staff survey was conducted at IMK-TRO.

On June 20 and 21, 2023, the pilot project team met with EAF Berlin to discuss the results of the survey and interviews that took place in recent months and to develop concrete measures.

All participants (Martina Klose, Roswitha Marioth, Katharina Loewe, Corinna Hoose, Christian M. Grams, IMK-TRO; Tina Weber, Vera Andreh, Anna Sive, EAF Berlin) were pleased about the large number of participants in the survey.

It was noted that many employees appreciate the collegial interaction at the institute and feel comfortable. Nevertheless, there are also areas where the IMK-TRO can and wants to improve. The free text fields of the survey were often filled in and, like the interviews, helped to get a better understanding of the different answers.

Together with the experts from EAF Berlin, the team was able to intensively discuss and prioritize possible measures. These included concrete measures, for example in the area of sensitization, guidelines, networking and also a mission statement of the institute. These will now be developed in small groups over the summer. We are looking forward to making the cultural change at the institute visible.
