Why can't I register for prerequisites?

There are several reasons for this:

  • the registration period for advance performance begins approximately six weeks after the start of lectures. Registration is not possible until the preliminary work has been released.
  • you are listening to a lecture/attending an exercise for the second time and are already registered in another semester. Please try to deregister yourself in the previous semester. Since there is also a defined deregistration period, you may not be able to deregister yourself. In this case please contact Kathi Maurer, she will deregister you retroactively. After that you can register in the current semester.
  • the preliminary course is part of an elective or compulsory elective module and you have not yet selected in your study plan which lectures and exercises you will attend. Only when a choice has been made, a partial performance is officially part of your study schedule and you can register.
  • You have not yet passed a performance that is a prerequisite for registration. Please check your module handbook again and ask Kathi Maurer for advice if necessary.
  • you forgot to re-register in time. Please do it quickly and contact the Student Services.
  • you have definitively lost your right to take exams in your course of study. Please contact the Student Services.

Does the Hauptseminar/ Seminar on Specialization Phase also take place during the semester break?

No, the Hauptseminar or Seminar on Specialization Phase is a course that, like any other lecture, only takes place during the lecture period. Please arrange a date for the presentation of your thesis in time, so that you do not have any time problems towards the end of your thesis. The lecture can also take place before the submission of your thesis, but must be held no later than four weeks after the submission.

If you are unsure about the timing, please contact Kathi Maurer.

Where can I find all the information about the process of my master thesis?

We have compiled all important information about the two modules Research Work and Master`s Thesis in our Guidelines. You can find them in the last chapter of the module manual.

Can I take soft skills that are not in my curriculum?

The examples in the study plan are soft skills that we can recommend. However, you are welcome to look for courses or lectures on your own that interest you more. All courses offered by the HOC, the SPZ, the MINT College and the ZAK are recognized as soft skills. If you find something beyond that, please talk to Professor Fink about your choice and get the credit confirmed. If you do not take care of the credit until after you have completed the soft skill, you may experience an avoidable disappointment because you are denied credit.
