J-WADI (Jordan Wind erosion And Dust Investigation) is a field measurement campaign conducted north of Wadi Rum in Jordan in September 2022 that aims to advance our understanding of the particle size and mineralogical composition of emitted dust and their dependence on the parent soil and meteorological conditions. Understanding the mineral dust emission process is a key prerequisite to quantifying the regional and global impacts of dust on air quality, health, economy, and not least on weather and climate.

J-WADI is co-organized between the ERC Consolidator Grant FRAGMENT (FRontiers in dust minerAloGical coMposition and its Effects upoN climaTe, principal investigator Carlos Pérez García-Pando) at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group "A big unknown in the climate impact of atmospheric aerosol: Mineral soil dust" (Principal investigator Dr. Martina Klose) at KIT's Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research - Department Troposphere Research in collaboration with the University of Jordan and brings together prime mineral dust experts from multiple institutions across Europe, Jordan, and the USA.
