Scientist position in preparation of the NAWDIC Field Campaign (NAWDIC)

Scientist position in preparation of the North Atlantic Waveguide, Dry intrusion, and downstream Impact Campaign (NAWDIC) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany

We offer an exciting scientist position in the field of atmospheric dynamics supporting the implementation of the NAWDIC field campaign. The successful candidate (d/f/m) will help coordinating the international “North Atlantic Waveguide, Dry intrusion, and downstream Impact Campaign” (NAWDIC) as a member of the “Large-scale Dynamics and Predictability” group (http://www.imk-tro.kit.edu/english/7425.php) at the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research – Department Tropospheric Research of KIT (https://www.imk-tro.kit.edu/).

Using airborne and ground-based observations, NAWDIC aims to advance our understanding of the synoptic- to micro-scale dynamical and physical processes associated with the triggering of severe wind gusts, heavy precipitation, and cold air outbreaks in the North Atlantic-European region and of their representation in NWP models (see https://internal.wavestoweather.de/campaign/projects/nawdic/wiki). Next to the support of coordinating NAWDIC you will contribute to the group’s core research themes working closely with Julian Quinting and Christian M. Grams.

We are looking for a highly motivated, independent candidate who is keen to contribute to and to become part of an enthusiastic team. Proficient oral and written communication skill, being sensible to the NAWDIC partners’ needs and the ability to develop warm relationships will help making NAWDIC a success. We offer a dynamic work environment in a vibrant team at one of Germany's foremost research institutions for natural science and technology (read more at https://www.kit.edu) with attractive programs for young researchers (https://www.khys.kit.edu). NAWDIC offers the great opportunity for networking with colleagues nationally and world-wide, and the participation in the field campaign.
