The research program "Herausforderung Klimawandel" is an interdisciplinary collaborative project in which university departments, state agencies and engineering offices take part.

Description

The research program "Herausforderung Klimawandel" was launched in autumn 2006 by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of Baden-Wuerttemberg. The six sub-projects of the program have a duration until the end of 2009 with a total funding of 2.8 Mio. €. The State Agency for Environment, Measurements and Nature Conservation (LUBW) was commissioned with the organizational  realization of the research program. The Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research (IMK) has - besides participation in three sub-projects - the task of establishing a central metadata bank and to create and maintain an internet platform for the entire research program. Furthermore, the IMK supports the LUBW in the organization of internal and external specialists and public events.

The aim of the research program "Herausforderung Klimawandel" is to estimate the consequences and possible risks of climate change over the next decades for the region of Baden-Wuerttemberg. It will focus not only on the examination of changes of the meteorological variables - temperature, precipitation, wind - but also on the assessment of the impact of these changes on the environment.

More information about the individual sub-projects can be found here: http://www.herausforderung-klimawandel-bw.de/.
