Why study in Karlsruhe?

Founded in 1715, the fan city of Karlsruhe is idyllically located in the climatically favored Oberrheingraben Logo KAbetween the Palatinate Forest, Black Forest and Vosges. As a "residence of law", Karlsruhe has one of the highest academic densities in the state. The university was founded in 1825, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was founded in 2009 from the merger with the Karlsruhe Research Center. The Meteorological Institute (IMK) itself was formally established in 1929 with the appointment of Albert Peppler as the first director of the institute.


The IMK has many advantages:

  • Close cooperation with the German Weather Service and other international meteorological services and research institutions (eg development of new forecasting models).
  • Possibilities for a stay abroad [e.g. Leeds (England), Tel Aviv (Israel), Istanbul (Turkey)].

 

The KIT has many advantages:

  • Contiguous campus (KIT campus south) in central location and within walking distance to the city center, castle and park.
  • University Library open 24 hours.
  • Wi-Fi is available throughout KIT grounds and in many public spaces in downtown Karlsruhe.
  • Ability to combine with other natural / geosciences (such as geophysics, geodesy, ...) as a supplementary/ minor subject.
  • Acquisition of further interdisciplinary qualifications possible (Studium Generale, language courses).
  • Rich sports offer (university sports, club sports, competitive sports).
  • Wide range of university groups from various fields (political, cultural, social, ...).
  • Variety of musical arrangements: from dance to symphony orchestra, from big band to chamber choir.
  • Good structures for the promotion of young talent.
